My job involves being on my own quite a lot so I've taken to listening to podcasts while I'm in the office and it's quiet. I've been listening to them for a good number of years now but my consumption has gone to a next level in the last few months. I've put together a list of my top 5 at the moment. If you think I've miss any off please let me know because I'm always on the look out for new podcasts.
Answer Me This!
Answer Me This was the first podcast I really ever got into and am still listening all these years later. The premise of the show is simple, people write and call in with questions and Helen, Olly and Martin the Soundman answer them. It's funny and informative and I wait in the hope this will be the week Dave from Smethwick will call in again.
Rhod Gilbert's Best Bits
The best bits of Rhod’s Saturday morning radio show on BBC Wales. I love how laid back Rhod's show is. Each week he has a different co-host and together they just make it up as they go along. Rhod's quizzes are the greatest parts of the podcast. You just need to listen to understand.
I've mentioned Up Yours, Downstairs on this blog before and I still stand by the praise I gave it then. Husband and wife team Kelly and Tom recap the best of (mostly) British period dramas. Originally a purely Downton Abbey podcast they've branched out into recapping the likes of Mr Selfridge and Peaky Blinders with the same dollop of wit as we wait for the new seasons. They're doing instant takes for the series of Downton currently airing and will release full podcasts, with the usual historical background sections that I love, when it airs in the US in January.
The Honest Actors' Podcast
The Honest Actors’ Podcast is a new kid on the block. In fact it’s not even technically out yet. The show launches on the 30th September but there’s been a stream of teasers in the meantime and I’m very excited for the first episode. Jonathan Harding, an actor himself, sits down for honest conversations with a host of TV, film and theatre actors and talks about what it's really like to be an actor.
Ear Biscuits
Ear Biscuits is the podcast for anyone who is interested in Youtube. Hosted by Rhett and Link, they interview popular YouTubers about their life and rises to fame. I love hearing the back story to people's lives and how they became successful. Rhett and Link often get down to the nitty gritty. Incidentally another podcast enjoy was created in response to Ear Biscuits. Grace Helbig started Not Too Deep as the light hearted opposite of Ear Biscuits after feeling like she'd been through the wringer on Ear Biscuits.
