A Day At Whitchurch Silk Mill
18:30
Lets travel back in time to an overcast day in February when I took myself off to a little village near Andover to visit my friends and old university flatmate, Orla. The majority of the weekend involved us slobbing out and eating non-stop but there came a point where, for our own health, we needed to leave the house. So we jumped in the car and drove over to the next village and paid a visit to Whitchurch Silk Mill.
I've had these photos saved in a draft post for months now but Orla got engaged at the weekend and it seemed a nice time to post them.
Whitchurch Silk Mill is the oldest silk mill in the UK still in its original building and is still in use today. Many of the UK's period dramas come to them when sourcing silk for costumes. We got to see the Victorian machinery and have a go at weaving as well as seeing the modern machinery in use.
We also discovered that day that I could spot an A4 photo of Elizabeth McGovern from 15 feet without my glasses on. What can I say? I'm just gifted.
There wasn't tonnes to see and do but with a tea room and a few hands on bits it was a nice half day out.
Now on to the photos...
